Plymouth Argyle has parted ways with manager Wayne Rooney, just seven months into his three-year contract. 

The decision comes after a dismal run of results, with the team languishing at the bottom of the Championship table.

Rooney's tenure was marked by a series of defeats, including a 4-0 thrashing at Coventry on Boxing Day and a 2-0 loss at Oxford on Sunday, December 29, 2024. 

The team's last win was on November 5 against Portsmouth, a streak that has left fans frustrated and worried about their team's future.

In a statement on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, Rooney expressed his gratitude to the club, its staff, and the fans, saying, "Plymouth Argyle will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to look out for and take interest in their results."

The club has confirmed that first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell and Club Captain Joe Edwards will take charge of the team for their upcoming Championship clash with Bristol City on New Year's Day.

Rooney's departure has raised questions about his future in football management. The former Manchester United star had been touted as a promising young manager, but his tenure at Plymouth Argyle has been marred by controversy and poor results.

In a separate development, Rooney took to social media to dismiss speculation about his personal life, denying allegations that he had invited a woman to his apartment. 

He explained that the woman in question had given him a lift home and was accompanied by his son.
