An Abia State High Court, Umuahia, has discharged and acquitted five pro-Biafran agitators who were arrested in July 2022 and have been in detention from that date until now.
The ruling on Thursday, December 19, 2024, by Justice A.O. Chijioke, brought an end to a long legal battle for the freedom of the detainees.
The legal representative of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, announced the judgement today in Owerri while giving a breakdown of the charges against the five persons who were accused of conspiracy, unlawful possession of firearms and membership of an unlawful society, under case number HU/61C/2022.
Three witnesses were called in according to Ejiofor, the legal representative of IPOB, but the court decided otherwise that what they presented was not a piece of sufficient evidence before it, this prompted the court to set the detainees free.
