The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has taken stern action against the Libyan Football Federation, imposing a $50,000 fine and ordering the team to play their next two official matches behind closed doors.
The disciplinary measures come after a chaotic scene unfolded during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Libya and Benin in Benghazi.
Libyan fans sparked violence, throwing stones and bottles at the visiting team, leaving Benin's players and officials shaken.
Benin's head coach, Gernot Rohr, condemned the incident, revealing that his team was assaulted by fans and police after the final whistle.
The CAF Disciplinary Board found the Libyan Football Federation guilty of violating articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
This incident marks the second time the Libyan Football Federation has faced disciplinary action in recent months.
In a previous incident, the federation was fined $50,000 for its treatment of the Nigerian Super Eagles during a botched game.
The CAF's swift response aims to send a strong message against fan violence and ensure a safer, more respectful environment for players, officials, and spectators across African football.
